Nespresso and Caran d’Ache a few months ago launched pen made from recycled coffee capsules: The limited edition Caran d’Ache 849 Nespresso ballpoint. Coffee lovers’ favourite Nespresso has partnered with prestige stationery Caran d’Ache to produce a limited-edition ballpoint pen made from recycled aluminium coffee capsules. The result is giving environmentally-conscious coffee-fans something to write home about.

The classic 849 pen has been reimagined in recycled aluminium for the first time, creating an accessory that is elegant, trendy and responsible. The limited edition 849 Nespresso is presented in the satin midnight blue of Dharkan, celebrating one of the most popular coffees from Nespresso’s permanent range.

Caran d’Ache 849 Nespresso is a salute to recycling and designed to remind consumers of the infinite durability of aluminium which can be re-melted and reused again and again. It aims to encourage the recycling of Nespresso coffee capsules by showing the infinite potential of aluminium.

The pen is part of Nespresso’s Second Life project, launched in 2016, to promote the recycling of the aluminium coffee capsules, offering evidence of their repurposing in a variety of ways.

A partnership founded on sustainability

For the 849 Nespresso limited edition, the two Swiss companies took up the technical challenge of using recycled Nespresso capsules to create a high-quality alloy of aluminium. The result is a writing instrument par excellence.

With its instantly recognizable hexagonal shape, the 849 ballpoint pen is one of Caran d’Ache’s flagship products. Heir to the principles of industrial design and its ergonomic concerns, the 849 and its purist form have the ultra-comfortable proportions of an iconic model. Its timeless design is complemented by the exceptional performance of the Goliath cartridge, which can write up to 600 A4 pages. The brightness of the finish is achieved through a microbeading process and electrostatic treatment, while eco-friendly packaging underscores its eco-credentials.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Caran d’Ache and bringing consumers this unique object, a true celebration of the infinite recyclability of aluminium. When consumers recycle with Nespresso, their capsule continues its journey. We believe this special collaboration gives coffee lovers something to write home about.” Daniel Weston, Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Nespresso.

The 849 Nespresso is on available at Caran d’Ache stores globally and online.
